Occlusal, Bite disease, and Night Guard Treatment
Occlusal and bite disorders are common cause of TMJ pain, mastication muscles pain and can lead to discomfort, and long-term dental complications. Bite disease, if left untreated, gum recession, abfractions at the neck of teeth, loose teeth, moderate to severe bone loss causing acute periodontal disease can occur. Night guard treatment is a critical treatment to provide a non-invasive solution to protect teeth from grinding, clenching, and bite misalignment issues, promoting overall oral health and comfort. Occlusal or night guard requires complex understanding of the concept of Maximal Occlusal Protection and occlusal equilibration on the occluding plastic surface of the night guard. This procedure requires detail customization of patient biting patterns on the night guard to alleviate the symptoms of bite disease. Night guard requires 2-3 visits after delivery to properly equilibrate to MOP occlusion. Without proper customization of occlusal patterns or occlusal equilibration of teeth against the plastic night guard, your nightguard has little or no function in alleviating your occlusal or bite disease.

Nightguard or Occlusal splint Benefits:

Protects Teeth: Prevents enamel wear caused by grinding and clenching.
-
Reduces Jaw Pain: Alleviates tension and stress on the jaw muscles.
-
Prevents Headaches: Minimizes discomfort caused by bite misalignment.
-
Improves Sleep Quality: Enhances relaxation by reducing nighttime teeth grinding.
-
Non-Invasive Treatment: A simple, comfortable, and effective solution.
-
Prevents Long-Term Damage: Avoids further complications such as TMJ disorders and tooth fractures.
Occlusal and bite disease treatments, including night guards, provide a protective barrier against the harmful effects of teeth grinding and bite misalignment. These treatments help preserve the integrity of teeth, alleviate discomfort, and prevent complications that may lead to more extensive dental procedures. By addressing bite issues early, patients can experience improved oral function, reduced pain, and enhanced overall well-being.
